The word Mass is the English equivalent of the Latin word missa, which comes from the final words of the Mass in Latin: ite, missa est.
This is basically saying, it's over; you are sent. It is the sending of the believers into the world, refreshed, and ready to bring the Good News, or Gospel of Jesus Christ.
