Abraham Joseph wrote:

Hi, guys —

  • Is working in the film field against the Catholic faith?

Abraham

  { Is working in the film field against the Catholic faith? }

Bob replied:

Dear Abraham,

Working in film is not against the Catholic faith.

Film, like everything else, can be used for good or evil, and it is up to us to recognize the difference.

Use your own judgement as to the nature of a particular film and whether you would want to be part of it; let your faith inform you.

Peace,

Bob Kirby

Mike replied:

Abraham,

Just to add to Bob's answer, one of the Church's recently canonized Pope's, John Paul II was an actor during one portion of his career.

The Hollywood film and acting field can be used for very good purposes but sadly, can also be used for very evil purposes.

If you believe you have a vocation in this field, ask the Lord to guide you to where He wants you to work but be careful. While there may be many skilled people in this industry, often fame, glory, and pride go to their heads and they end up believing and supporting issues that the Church is strongly opposed to.

  • That said, who knows?
  1. You may be one of the next famous, yet faithful, Catholic producers, like Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Capra, or Dinesh D'Souza!
  2. You may be one of the next famous, yet faithful, Catholic actors, like Mark Wahlberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger, or James Caviezel!

Ask our Blessed Mother to intercede for you in the discernment process along with her Son.

Mike
