Cornelius Macauley wrote:

Hi, guys —

I was told that sacramentals shouldn't be bought and that you need to have them blessed by a priest.

  • Is this true?

I have this Blessing From The Holy Land

Thank you,

Cornelius

  { Are these blessed sacramental already considered blessed or should I have a priest bless them? }

Bob replied:

Dear friend,

Thanks for the question.

Generally speaking, you should have any item that is considered a sacramental blessed after the purchase, because items that may have been blessed before hand, no longer carry the blessing — the act of commerce nullifies it.

The items from the Holy Land have an intrinsic value as coming from a holy place, but the sacramental designation in the eyes of God comes from the priestly blessing.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
