Hello to you all!

Years ago my brother passed away and I respected his wishes and distributed some of his ashes in a lake in front of our childhood cabin. I also sent some to his family in the mail. I have the urn and what is left, is now in my home. I am on a fixed income and cannot afford a cemetery plot nor even the cost to open up someone else's urn so I can place his remains in with theirs. It is way too expensive for me to do.

What else can I do as I am hearing so much discouraging talk about having them in our home and I am worried that I am affecting his soul.

Please help me. I am so distraught and worried. I have no one that will contribute either.

God help me. I look forward to your forthcoming response.

God bless you!

Sincerely,

Anne Marie

  { What can I do to get my brother's cremains buried right as I can't afford a cemetery plot nor urn? }

Eric replied:

Dear Anne Marie —

I assure you, nothing is going to happen to his soul.

What you do with his ashes has no effect on his soul. It may have an effect on your soul, if you do not treat them respectfully, but that's different.

Here's something to consider:

  • What happens to the cremains when you pass away?
  • If someone else going to take custody of them?
  • What happens when they die, who gets them then?
  • And, when they die, who gets them?

Eventually, someone who has no connection with your brother is going to end up with the cremains, and not going to care about them in the least.

That is why the Church wants them buried so they can be treated respectfully.

I'm afraid I have no suggestions on how you can get his cremains buried properly. Perhaps one of my colleagues will have some recommendations.

Eric

Anne Marie replied:

Hello all,

First, the good news! I was able to find help to bury my brother's cremains. Thank the Good Lord.

After the Mass for the Immaculate Conception, we are going to the cemetery. Such a beautiful day ahead.

  • Anyway, I was wondering if any of you may know where this simple, one sentence phrase that Jesus spoke to the Pharisees is in the New Testament?

It is about sowing, but it is not the Parable of the Sower, or St. Paul's sowing explanation either. It was simply a very clear phrase and very highly intelligent as Jesus made his point to the Pharisees.

I wish I could remember it as I tried to discuss it the other day at a day retreat, and the words weren't coming, nor the location in the Bible!! I tried hard to peruse, as much as I could, to find it, to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I must reiterate, it is not those two usual sowing words that I mentioned earlier.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

Sincerely,

Anne Marie

Bob replied:

Dear Anne Marie,

You can search with a concordance, or an app that does likewise, but search for the word sow or sowing and see what results you find. I found a few (here are some samples):

I don't know what the context is that you are looking for, but you can always search by word until you find the correct verse.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
