Hi, guys —

My best friend's husband is questioning her about the Church and the Scriptures through some text messages. I would like to help ease his suspicions about the Church by sending some Scripture verses.

Which Scripture passages should I send him?

Mike replied:

Hi, Josie —

Since you weren't specific on which issue's your best friend's husband is talking about, the best
I can do is send you my Apologetic Scripture web page:

I would encourage you to sign up for these on a regular basis with my Holy Quotes program:

Holy Quotes

and at least sign up for:

6. The Holy Scriptures Verse-Finder for Catholic Doctrines
(second one down)

My only caution is that you don't get caught in games of:

  • Bible Tennis
    or
  • Scriptural Ping Pong

Where you exchange one verse, for another verse, for another verse, etc.

A Catholic, let alone the Protestant, can easily start taking Scripture passages out of context,
just to win an argument.  In faith-sharing discussions, the enemy is not a person, the enemy
is ignorance of the Scriptures within the context of Catholic Teachings.

Remember: The Bible was written by Catholics and their ancestors, for Catholics, for use in the Catholic Church.  Before 382 A.D., there was no known inspired Table of Contents that made up the Bible.

Those books were chosen by Catholic bishops guided by the Holy Spirit.

Every time a Protestant opens their Bible, they are implicitly saying:

I trust the decision that Catholic bishops made, guided by the Holy Spirit, on which books make up my New Testament.

The Church came before the Bible; not the other way around.

Hope this helps,

Mike
