Christa —
If you read the Gospel, it says that
it was the eve of the Sabbath. Sabbath
is Saturday, and it began in the
evening just after Christ was taken
down and laid in the tomb. We
know that He had the Last Supper
on Thursday night which, for the
Jews, was the beginning of Friday,
because it was the first night of
the Passover celebration. We
know that He was crucified on the
next day, which was still Friday.
There are better explanations using
the Hebrew months and dates. The
point is that the 7th day
of the week (which we call Saturday) was the Sabbath, and if you read
the Gospel accounts carefully, you
will see that Jesus was crucified
on the 6th day, and taken
down from the Cross before nightfall
on that day.
