I know that she needs to prepare for her First Reconciliation first. Also, that she needs to be prepared for the First Communion ceremony and that she will be tested by the priest.
What I'm not sure about is whether she really must attend weekly classes when she already gets religious education daily.
She also receives religious education from us, her parents, as her first catechists. I'm worried that CCD will be a deterrent to her interest in Catholicism.
- I have heard that, technically, we do not need to send her and could prepare her ourselves, but is that truly a practical option?
While I know that she would be fully prepared, without CCD , I'm not sure how to even bring up the subject with our priest, who is also in charge of the school she attends.
- Is this something that is considered acceptable?

Generally Catholic schools teach religion classes as part of their curriculum and CCD is intended for students not attending Catholic school, so no, a student attending Catholic grade school does not have to attend parish CCD classes.

Presumably your child is getting Catholic education at her school, so she would not have to go toCCD.Most parishes do not require it, if the child is already receiving Religious Education through school, even if they are different parishes. Your child would then receive her Sacraments through the school's parish as well.

Just to emphasize the point, as Bob and Eric said, if you go to Catholic grade school, you're already being trained in the faith, unlike CCD which is an hour every week.
In a Catholic grade school, you're getting Religion classes just about every single day. You pray throughout the day: to start the day, before meals, etc.
Sending a Catholic School kid to CCD is like sending a High School math student back to nursery school to learn his numbers.

It is quite sufficient for your daughter to get her formation from her Catholic School.
Normally, the school has its own First Communion Mass, preparation, and the like.
- Don't they do the sacraments through the school?
I'm a little surprised that the same priest is in charge but doesn't account for this.
- Perhaps they have it at a different grade level?
I would talk it through with the Pastor and find out if there is some rationale for this requirement, and make an appeal.
