John Raymond wrote:

Hi, guys —

I am sedevacantist.

I believe a new church was created after 1958. The Catholic Church is in eclipse. Although I am not in a Vatican II church, administratively there are some ties. I can't get an excommunication.

  • Do you have any suggestions?

John

  { How can I excommunicate myself from the administrative ties of the Vatican II Catholic Church? }

Eric replied:

Hi, John —

You'll be pleased to know that you are already latae sententae excommunicated under the Code of Canon Law, Canon 1364 as a schismatic.

This does not however make you not a Catholic; there is no canonical way to undo that.
(You're a few years too late, sorry).

Have fun!

Eric

Mike replied:

Hey Eric,

I love that answer. Solid with a twist of humor:

. . . there is no canonical way to undo that.

Though I don't understand you're a few years too late.

  • Can you explain?

Mike

Eric replied:

Mike,

You used to be able to canonically leave the faith or at least, for purposes of marriage, no longer be subject to Catholic form, by formally renouncing your faith but Pope Benedict changed that, and there is no longer a canonical way to escape, so to speak.

Eric
