Stressed Out Steven wrote:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

My wife Rosa and I are practicing Catholics.

I have high levels of stress and anxiety as well as an array of issues dealing with my wife's teeth and weight.

  • If possible, could you please recommend a prayer, or two (addressed to a particular Saint or Marian title)?

It might help me cope with my wife's teeth and weight issues so I can become a more Christ-like spouse and Father. Thank you in advance for your advice. Please pray for me and my family.

I already started to pray for your staff members.

God Bless You!

Stay safe and healthy. Sincerely,

Steven

  { Can you suggest a prayer to a Saint that helps me cope with my wife's teeth and weight issues? }

Eric replied:

Steven,

I would recommend recourse to St. Joseph the Foster-Father of Jesus, and St. Joachim, the father of the Blessed Virgin.

This liturgical year is the year of St. Joseph and while it is coming to a close, there is much material out there on him. There is a Litany of St. Joseph that may prove fruitful for you.

A popular book on this topic is Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald H. Calloway.

There is a patron saint of dentists: St. Apollonia [New Advent][Wikipedia]:

"A venerable Christian woman of Alexandria, who was burned to death after suffering many tortures. Her teeth were broken with pincers, and for this reason she is Invoked against toothache and is represented holding a tooth In pincers. Condemned to die at the stake, she is said to have leapt of her own accord into the flames (249 A.D.)."

Steven replied:

Eric,

Thank you for your assistance.

Please pray for my wife, daughter and I.

I shall pray for you.

Steven

Mike replied:

Hi, Steven —

I just thought I would throw in the litany Eric was referring to below.

Also, to my surprise, St. Charles Borromeo, well-known for his patronage of clergy who are in the Catholic hierarchy, e.g.: bishops, cardinals, seminarians, and spiritual leaders, is also the patron saint of obesity and dieting.

He made him the lord of his household And prince over all his possessions.

Let us pray:

O God, in your ineffable providence you were pleased to choose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most holy Mother. Grant, we beg you, that we may be worthy to have him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our Protector: You who live and reign forever and ever.

Saint Joseph, pray for us.

Amen

I hope this helps,

Mike

Steven replied:

Thanks Mike,

God Bless You!

Sincerely,

Steven
