Hi, guys —
Trust/Surrender Proverbs 3:5 say:
3 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. |
The Surrender Novena Day 6 says:
You want to judge everything, direct everything and see to everything, and surrender to human strength, or worse, to men themselves, trusting in their intervention. |
Of course, there are many other references to trusting God in the Scriptures.
My question is:
- If I have a loved one with a dire medical issue, and I did research that medical intervention has a 99.9% cure rate, and that gives me peace, would it be considered a sin since I could not find that peace, trusting God, before doing the research?
Thank you,

Bob replied:
Dear Steve,
Thanks for the question.
I think there may be some confusion as to the nature of peace.
Peace is not the complete absence of anxiety but rather the Trust in God, which means trusting that even if things don't go our way, we know He has our best interest at heart and likewise will promise to see us through any trial or even loss. Our Blessed Mother trusted that Her Son was not going to be abandoned by His Heavenly Father, even as He wailed the 22nd Psalm from the Cross. The Resurrection was His promise fulfilled, and it is for us too.
Therefore, as in your example, it is not a sin to want to humanly assess the best method for a healthy outcome; sin only enters when we refuse to accept God's will and surrender to His Ultimate Plan.
So, strive fully to do the best human thing, and trust God will provide you with the best thing in accordance with His Will.
Peace,
