Hi, guys —

Our child completed classes in preparation for receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. With less than a week before receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the whole world shut down due to the pandemic, and our child was unable to complete the Sacraments.

We delayed returning to church until recently and started looking into how to get the Sacraments completed, as our child is now 11 years old, but we attended a funeral Mass a few days ago, and my child inadvertently followed us and received Holy Communion.

We realize that this was not appropriate, but we have no idea what we are supposed to do now.

Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Communion Conundrum

Dear friend,

Thanks for the question.  

You should be able to pick up where you left off very easily.
  
I would simply talk to the pastor at the parish where your child did Religious Ed. and set up an opportunity to complete his sacraments.  First Communion can be done very easily at virtually any Mass, and likewise, Penance or Confession can be done at the regularly scheduled parish times or by appointment.  

At our parish, things like this happen quite often, so our Religious Ed. Director and priests work together to make sure whatever is needed happens.  I imagine your parish would do the same.  

Just give them a call and don't worry.
