Hi, Helene —
No sin you are sorry of and truly
repent of is unforgivable. This sin
is mentioned in Mark 3:29, which
calls it blasphem[ing]
against the holy Spirit.
Traditionally, this sin is understood
as final impenitence, i.e., refusing
to repent for your sins at the end
of your life.
The New American Bible footnote says:
"Whoever blasphemes against
the Holy Spirit: this sin is called
an everlasting sin because it
attributes to Satan, who is the
power of evil, what is actually
the work of the Holy Spirit, namely,
victory over the demons."
That said: I think your friend should
relax.
