Hi, guys —
I have a moral theology question in regards
to prophylactic surgery. I am currently being
tested for the breast cancer genetic mutation
gene (BRCA), as I have had two close relatives
who have the mutation. The course of medical
action, if one has the mutation, is to remove
the ovaries before age 40.
- What is the Catholic Church's stance
on removing a reproductive organ before
it may, or may not, become diseased?
This decision would be based on reducing the
risk of ovarian cancer and not on contracepting
issues.
Thank you for your time in regards to this
question,
Jane Doe
