Hi, Charlie —
When a priest leaves his religious community or his bishop, first and
foremost he remains a priest. The Sacrament of Ordination is permanent.
His religious superior, or bishop, will outline the terms and conditions he will need
to follow once he leaves his religious community or diocese.
If he wishes to be released
from his vows, i.e., to get married, there is a process he would need to follow,
which would ultimately go to Rome.
