Mary,
You and I plainly see David's sin, and so does God, but He also can see
so much more than you and I cannot. The Lord saw something special in David,
that when the sin was stripped away, was much closer to the image of a
son than all of his contemporaries. God sees us with the full potential
he has for us and is ready to forgive our transgression provided we have
a repentant and contrite heart. David did have such a heart and the Lord
was ready to forgive him.
Ultimately, the story of David can give us all hope, for we can know that,
despite our deepest most cruel and ugly sins, God does not lose affection
for us, nor does he forsake us.
David was better than his worst deeds, and so are you, and me (when we
let God's grace to move us out of them). Let's rise to the call that God
has for us.
Peace,
Bob Kirby
