Robert,
That makes no sense. Often times
parishes will hire non-Catholic organists
and music directors so having a
Protestant sing in the choir during
Mass is perfectly fine. Long before
I converted, (actually reverted),
I was playing the bass in a Catholic
Charismatic music ministry team.
Not only was I a Protestant, but
I was a minister. I played at Masses
where the Cardinal was the celebrant
and he knew my status.
To the best of my knowledge, as long as they don't receive Holy
Communion, there is no official prohibition.
If your pastor or the group's spiritual
adviser has a pastoral reason for
forbidding this, then I'd ask him
about it but ultimately you should
submit to his authority. I don't
think he has canon law or Church
teaching on his side on this issue.
