Rhonda James wrote:

Hi, guys —

If I go to a wedding Mass on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. does that count as a vigil Mass for Sunday?

Rhonda

  { Does a Wedding Mass on Saturday at 2:00pm count for a Sunday vigil Mass on Saturday? }

Paul replied:

Rhonda,

It's not a weird question, but a practical one, and one that shows your dedication to the Mass.

A 2:00pm Mass would not be the Mass of the following liturgical day, so it would not count for Sunday and its obligation. If it were 4:00pm or later that would be a different story.

Paul

Mary Ann replied:

Hi, Rhonda —

No, it does not. However, if one must travel the next morning, then one can be excused from Mass obligation.

Mary Ann
