Dear Confused —
- What is it that draws you to Islam?
- Have you examined the historical evidence for both faiths?
Mohammed never performed a single miracle. Jesus performed many, including rising from the dead.
- Have you examined Mohammed's life and compared it with Jesus's?
- Have you compared the nature of Allah, according to Islam, with the Christian nature of God?
In Christianity, God is unconditional, selfless love.
In Islam, God is master, not Father (the idea of God, as Father, is blasphemous to Muslims).
I heard a Muslim explain that God is not Father by comparing our relationship with Allah with a man's relationship with his dog. He went on to say that he had to move, and the new place doesn't accept dogs, so he's simply going to have his dog killed. This is how he explained Allah's relationship with man.
In contrast, Catholicism maintains that God is going to deify the just and that he makes us his sons and daughters; we become, by grace, what Christ is by nature.
Islam maintains that the Christians and Jews corrupted the Scriptures, but this is contrary to historical evidence. It's also contrary to common sense:
- Why would God need three tries to "get it right":
- the revelation to the Jews (corrupted, they say)
- the revelation to the Christians (also corrupted, coincidentally)
- finally getting it right supposedly with Islam (not corrupted)?
- Is Allah not perfect?
- Why would he screw this up so badly?
- — What are the specific issues you are having, those difficulties you have believing Christianity and those compelling elements of Islam?
I note that you say your "heart" keeps drawing you closer to Islam.
- What does your mind and intellect say?
In matters of faith, we need to act chiefly in accordance with our intellects, and only secondarily with our hearts.
- Have you ever read the account of "Gabriel" appearing to Mohammed, and how violently the angel treated him?
It's a marked difference from the Annunciation or accounts of angels in the bible.
