To underscore what Mary Ann said, the book of Hebrews, being anonymous, would not be worthy of inclusion in the canon, for that very reason, if the Church had not testified to it and included it in the canon of Scriptures by tradition.
Knowing who wrote the book is not important to faith, but knowing the book is canonical, is. Without tradition, you would not know this. The interlocutor has it backwards.
You can't have the Bible only until you have the Bible, and you don't have the Bible without Catholic tradition.
