Hi, guys —
- In the gospel of Mark, why did Jesus curse the fig tree?
- Who was the young man dressed in a linen cloth the evening of Jesus' arrest?
They seized him and he ran away naked.
Thank you,

In Mark's gospel, why did Jesus curse the fig tree and who was the young man in Mark 14:51-52? }

John replied:
Hi,
Jerome —
Jesus cursed the fig tree because it wouldn't bear fruit and no one knows who the that young man was. For some reason, the Gospel writer included it. It is of no doctrinal value whatsoever.
It's just there.

Hi, Jerome —
I would just add that, the fig tree not bearing fruit, is similar to Christians that don't bear fruit for the kingdom.
There are many ways to bear fruit for the kingdom. We discover the best way through our unique calling which we can discover through a personal prayer life and participating the Catholic life of our local parish.
