Amy Perry wrote:

Good Afternoon,

My name is Amy Perry. I have been dating my current husband since October of 2003 and we were married October 12, 2012.

I am not Catholic but my husband is. I have been going to a Catholic parish with him and his parents for about ten years now and feel I am ready to be baptized. I am currently taking the classes to do so.

  • I had a baby on June 30, 2013 and am wondering will my child be able to be baptized into the Catholic Church when only one parent is a Catholic?

This means a lot of my husband and I and my child will be brought up in the faith and in the Church.

Your response is greatly appreciated.

Have a blessed day,

Amy

Mike replied:

Hi Amy,

Thanks for the question.

Yes, he or she will be able to be baptized.

If you were married in the Church, the only one who made a promise to raise the children Catholic is the Catholic party. The non-Catholic spouse is only a witness to the promise the Catholic spouse has made.

That said, let me Welcome you to our family with open arms!

The sacraments of the Church are, what I call, our spiritual dynamite. In each and every sacrament Jesus touches our lives and by renewing our Covenant weekly at Mass, we are guided by Him in making proper Christian decisions for that week.

Seeing that you have started RCIA classes, I would encourage you to consider buying a cheap copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to learn everything we believe as faithful Catholics.
