Dear Jan,
Only Catholics with unforgiven mortal sin cannot receive Holy Communion. This would include Catholics that are remarried after a civil divorce (without an annulment). This is because, since their first marriage is presumed valid without an annulment, they are in effect committing perpetual adultery in a second union.
Your potential separation and civil divorce, in and of itself, would not make you morally ineligible to receive Holy Communion. Do not hesitate in receiving Jesus, for He can inspire you and see you through all your present suffering.
Peace,
Paul
