Hi, guys —

I am unable to attend Mass on Sundays as I look after my elderly husband and do not want to leave him in case he falls or has an accident. He currently has a tendency to be unsteady on his feet.

He is independent but reliant on me so my leaving the house, especially on a Sunday, makes him feel nervous and I am unsure what to do.

I am currently not missing Sunday Services because I am go to an evening Mass but I may not be able to do this if he asks me to stay.

  • What should I do?

I do not always sleep well so I am a late riser and everything at the moment is getting in my way.

  • Can you please give me some help and guidance?

I don't want to feel guilty about this because I know that God understands my predicament but need some advice.

Thanks!

Marie

Bob replied:

Marie,

Why don't you talk to your parish priest about a few things:

  • a dispensation from attending Mass for extenuating circumstances
  • watching the T.V. Mass for now, and
  • asking him to have someone bring you Holy Communion.

I imagine you may be able to find a better solution eventually, i.e., someone coming to the house to watch your husband while you are out, but do what you can for now.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
