Hi, guys —

  • Is the word "retreat" appropriate for a Catholic?

The word is used for a devotional meeting.

Donald —

Catholics have retreats all the time and call them such, so yes.

Dear friend,

Thanks for the question.

  • Are you concerned that the word is employed by other entities, both religious and secular, to describe events they conduct?

The fact that the word can have a secular or non-Catholic usage does not negate its usefulness; if that were the case, many, many words would be inappropriate.

The word itself is neutral. It is merely a description of certain events to indicate their purpose.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
