Hi, guys —

Peace be with you!

After being ignorant of the faith for a while I have become a devoted Catholic yet have a few questions.

  • Is oral sex a sin for husband and wife?
  • Also, how can I persuade my relatives and friends who used to be Catholic that the Catholic faith is the one and only Church of Jesus Christ?

God Bless you all,

Reggie

  { Is oral sex sinful and how can I show my relatives the Catholic Church is the only Church of Jesus? }

John replied:

Hi Reggie,

First of all, we celebrate with you your new found devotion for your faith and pray for your continued spiritual growth.

The Church teaches that sexual expression between a husband and wife is sacramental. It is the union between a man and woman in which they truly become one flesh. In that context, all sex acts which are not degrading and are not contraceptive are permissible so long as neither spouse is degraded.

  • So is oral sex a sin for a married couple? <No.>

However, it is not a substitute for intercourse and the act itself should not intentionally involve the man reaching climax outside of intercourse because that would be contraceptive in nature.

As for sharing your Catholic faith with others, it starts by living your life as a Catholic — as a witness to your family, friends, and neighbors.

None of us can convince another human being about the truth of the Gospel. That's the Holy Spirit's Job. We can however:

  • answer doctrinal questions
  • use reason and
  • indeed, give a reason for our faith.

I would recommend a book by Mark Shea called:

By What Authority? An Evangelical Discovers Tradition

In this book, Shea first builds the case for Christ, then for the Scriptures, and ultimately for the Catholic Church which gave us the Scriptures.

That's a good place to start.

You said:

By sharing with them what the very first Christians:

  • thought
  • taught, and
  • died for
atBibleBeltCatholics.com.

If they left the Church due to scandalous examples, hurt feelings, or teachings they disagree with and cannot accept a logical reply to this question, the best you can do is pray that they be open to your answers in the future.

I hope this helps.
