Hi, guys —

What can I do about the following:

My wife became extremely angered during the Pandemic when the Pope said that if we didn't have the "jab," we were unloving toward others...because he said that we refused the "jab"!

Because of some of the "answers" to the questions that we've heard, we're not sure now that we made the right decision on becoming Catholic, as we totally reject the answers that were given.

  • We don't believe in the Immaculate Conception of Mary; we believe she was born like any other human being, but she lived a sinless life!
  • We believe that God has the body and form that He made us in His image and likeness!
  • We believe there's no reason or basis for discussion on same-sex couples or transgender people! They need prayer and repentance like any other human being involved in sin!

I could go on, but it's nothing like what we talked about in RCIA or in the years before the Pandemic!

It horrifies us to think that the Church has forgotten what Jesus taught!

  • Was it Fatima who Prophesied an Apostasy in the Church?

If so, it appears to be happening! We came from Eastern Orthodoxy to the Catholic Church to escape the Polyglot and to worship in our own English language! I was raised a White Witch, my wife was raised Mormon, and we're seeing and hearing false teachings! I thought that we were away from them! These issues were all discussed with the Bishop before we were accepted into the Church; he assured us that we need not fear!

  • What happened (to/in) the Church!?
  • I don't do pretense, so what can we do, knowing what we know, believing what we believe, and fit into the Church?

Bob replied:

Dear Carl,

While we are obliged to respect the Holy Father Pope Francis, we are not obliged to obey him on matters he has no jurisdiction over; healthcare is not in his purview.  Unfortunately, his statements were moralizing, which became a source of scandal for the faithful, particularly those who disagreed with his assessment.  I also took the difference to his opinion and did not opt to take the vaccine. Now we are seeing substantial evidence to vindicate those who opted out, validating the imprudence and error of the mandates.  We must pray for the Pope and Bishops, for they have a difficult job and they do make mistakes.

With respect to your other issues, I suggest you examine the Catholic explanations for the difficulties you possess before abandoning your embrace of Catholicism.  I would meet with a priest, or someone versed in apologetics, in addition to utilizing resources like our site, Catholic Answers, Scott Hahn's St Paul Center for Biblical Studies, and the like.

Those who seek shall find, so keep seeking.

Peace,

Bob Kirby

Mike replied:

Hi, Carl —

In addition to what my colleague Bob said, I would like to quote my other colleague John, paraphrasing::

. . . studying Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church [ ] contains everything we need to know to be doctrinally sound Catholics.

As Bob said, find a good faithful priest who, if possible, is knowledgeable in Catholic Apologetics, who can help you understand the teachings you and your wife have problems with. We have many in our Church who:

  1. were never taught the Catholic faith correctly or
  2. were taught the Catholic faith in RCIA incorrectly.

You and your wife have the free will to believe whatever you wish. Our Team at AskACatholic.com just doesn't want you to leave a Church where you misunderstood teachings She never believed.

That said, there is nothing wrong with struggling to believe certain teachings of the Church. It happens to many of us. The key is having a persevering attitude toward understanding the Church's teaching.

You and your wife may also find the following pages helpful and encouraging:

Hope this helps,

Mike
