Hi, guys —
My grandmother was a devout Catholic. She passed away ten weeks ago, and I received money to have a Mass in her name.
- How do I go about doing this, and is it too late?
- Does the Mass need to beheld within a certain time frame from her passing?
- Also, how much does it cost?
Thank you for any advice!

How does a non-Catholic have a Mass said for my grandmother who recently passed away? }

Mary Ann replied:
Loni,
It is never too late!
A Mass stipend is around ($5.00) five dollars, if the person is able. If you received $150 dollars, she may have wanted what are called the Gregorian Masses: 30 days of uninterrupted Masses for the deceased person.
You can inquire at any Catholic parish or monastery.

Thank you so much Mary Ann!
I'll give her church a call today.

Mary Ann replied:
Loni —
If you want the Gregorian Masses, they will probably refer you to a monastery, because parishes are unable to handle so many Mass requests, or to handle a Mass request quickly.

Hi, Loni —
I wanted to share with you similar postings from the knowledge base that are related to your question.
I checked out Eric's Mass site and it looks really good; in addition, the organization: Aid to the Church in Need, also does very fine work. So there are no surprises when anyone visits the site, these are the different Mass offerings for each type of spiritual need as of June 2020:
Mass for the Deceased |
$10. |
Mass for Special Intentions |
$10. |
Triduum of Masses |
$30. |
Novena of Masses |
$90. |
Gregorian Series of Masses |
$330. |
As we have said in previous postings, the Church, nor any priest, is not going to get rich over saying Masses for the faithful departed. Our Blessed Lord has told us in the Scriptures that
a worker is worth his wage. (Luke 10:7) It is only just that the time a priest spends on specific spiritual need, correspond to his wage.
Hope they help,
Mike

Loni replied:
Thank you, Mike!
With Eric's web page I have scheduled three Masses today.
Since I am not Catholic, I was a little intimidated to call her parish.
Your site is a great resource.

Mary Ann replied:
Loni,
No one would have even asked whether you were Catholic!
Your mother is happy you did as she asked.

Eric replied:
Lori,
The usual sum now is $10, sometimes $15.
Check out the page I referred to in my previous reply.

Hi, Eric —
I guess down here inflation is a little less!
