Hi, guys —

In the Holy Bible, our Lord Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead in John 11:1-45, in addition to many other people, and St. Paul, the Apostle, raised Eutychus to life in Acts 20:9-12.

  • I was wondering, is it possible to still raise people from the dead, and , if so, is it only people who are in Purgatory, or can people in Heaven or Hell be raised from the dead?

I've heard stories of people who went to both, Heaven and Hell, who came back to life.

Mike replied:

Hi Spiderman,

Thanks for the question.

I can only thinks of two ways to raise a once-living person from the dead. If it's done by:

  1. the author of Life Himself, Jesus Christ, or
  2. baptized people who have partaken in Divine nature and use their God given skills do to so. e.g. Doctors with nurses or paramedics.
  • People in Heaven and Purgatory will be raised gloriously with Jesus at His Second Coming.
  • People who have chosen Hell, do not wish to be raised gloriously with Christ.

Commenting on your last statement, you are correct, there have been incidences where people have mystically come back from the dead, but most, if not all the time, these are private revelations which are not binding, in faith, on the Catholic.

As with any one who has mystically come back from the dead, this would be allow by Our Lord only for the salvation of other souls.

Hope this answers your question.

Mike
