Hi, guys —

I just need help to refresh my memory about the Creed.

  • How many articles are there in the Creed and what are the articles?

I want to share this with my Catholic friends who still have not received the basic Catechism.

Thanks a lot for your help and more power.

Belinda

Mike replied:

Hi Belinda,

Thanks for the question.

There are seven articles in the Creed.

What each article states will vary depending on whether you are referring to:

  1. the Apostles Creed
  2. the Nicene Creed, or
  3. the Liturgical Creed we proclaim at Sunday Mass and on Holy Day's of Obligation.

Here is a link to the on-line version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Seven Articles of the Apostles, Nicene, and Liturgical Creeds
  Apostles Creed Nicene Creed
(From the Catechism)
Nicene Creed
(From the Mass)
1. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen. I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

2. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.

Through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, He came down from Heaven:

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation,
he came down from Heaven,

3. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became Man. and by the power of the Holy Spirit He was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered died and was buried. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried,

5. On the third day he rose again. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

6. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will have no end. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will have no end.

7. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the Resurrection of the body,
and the Life Everlasting.

Amen.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the Resurrection of the dead, and the Life of the world to come.

Amen
