Hi, guys —

I am quite puzzled as to why Christ is described as descended into hell before His Ascension in the newly revised Apostles Creed.

  • Why was this change made after all these years?

There seems to be no Scriptural support for this since the term prison as mentioned as the place Christ went, is not synonymous with Hell.

The changing of rules and now the Creed concern me deeply. I have been a church [organist/pianist] since the age of eleven. I am now being told we cannot sing "America, the Beautiful" at the end of Mass. My heart yearns for only our Lord's words and teachings in Scripture — not man's opinions.

Thank you for any help on these issues.

Sincerely,

Patricia Simmonds

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the question.

I think this web page, plus the two pieces from Jim Blackburn of Catholic Answers should answer your question:

The changes in the liturgy are actually closer to the way we should have been worshipping.
The changes in liturgy are a manifestation of Pope Benedict's desire to have a truer, more unified liturgy around the world.

If you yearn for our Lord's words and teachings, you should welcome songs that focus more on our Catholic faith, than the country we live in. We should be willing to die for our faith before our country, like the Early Church Fathers, the very first Christians, did.

Also, it was Our Lord's choice to have a man govern our Church [Matthew 16:13-20] and protect it on issues of faith and morals, so you should take that issue up with Him.

Mike

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your research on the topics I was concerned about. I will definitely go to those web pages.
