Roy,
I am not quite sure of the meaning of your question but I try to help as best as I can.
We are a spirit-body composite; basically we are corporeal spirits. So, yes, in a sense, we are spirits that have a body. The body is integral to our nature however and is not merely some foreign add-on. The Christian sense of Resurrection is corporeal, that's why Jesus' Body was not in the tomb; it was raised. The body is with Him permanently, though it is transformed into something greater than we can imagine, as will be the case for us.
Currently, our bodies prevent us from being able to experience all the aspects of our spiritual nature. We don't see other spirits (generally), we don't fly around the universe or Heaven; we are limited.
Consider the nature of hydrogen and oxygen. When they are apart they have an explosive nature but when united, those aspects of their nature are changed. So it is with our spiritual and corporeal natures. They are changed by the merger of the two. Moreover, when we become transformed, we will have the perfect merger and enhancement to both in the same way the resurrected Christ did.
Hope that helps,
Bob Kirby
