Henrik,
You may be using the word darkness for two things:
- sin and
- concupiscence
- Sins are acts violating God's Law or Will.
- Concupiscence is the weakened state of man which inclines him more readily to sin since the fall of Adam and Eve.
Concupiscence is not sin, in and of itself, therefore someone with a condition that has resulted from man's fallen state is not sinning but is suffering the effects of sin.
Among sins, there are also two categories, mortal and venial.
- Mortal sins remove the soul from grace.
- Venial sins do not.
The confusion you allude to may be amongst one of these distinctions.
Peace,
Bob Kirby
