Hi, guys —

  • Can you please tell me the name of the wooden object that was used to prop up the Roman Missal on the altar during Mass?

Andrew replied:

Hi Joseph,

When a stand is used for the altar Missal, it's just called, "a stand".
They come in various heights and can be made of metal or wood.

Another old practice was to rest the Missal on a small cushion.

Andrew
