Dear Joy,
This is only mostly true.
In the Roman Rite, this is governed by Canon 917 of the Code of Canon Law:
"A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the Eucharistic Celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of Canon 921, §2." |
(It notes an exception for those in danger of death.) So, if you go to Mass twice, you can receive twice, but if you go to Mass three times, you cannot receive the third time in a calendar day.
If you receive earlier in the day and later in the day and have the opportunity to receive outside of Mass, you cannot (unless, as noted, you are in danger of death).
