Hi, guys —
I am a cradle Catholic who was married in the Catholic
Church. We divorced but the marriage was not annulled.
I remarried a Christian (Episcopalian) but a non-Catholic.
The marriage was civil but blessed my an Episcopalian priest.
We have a daughter who was baptized Episcopal. We attend
Mass and she is enrolled in religious education. She is
being raised Catholic.
- Can she make her First Communion and receive future
sacraments?
Thank you in advance for your response.

Ann replied:
Annette,
The Church may consent to your daughter making her
First Communion if you promise to raise her Catholic.
That would be the pastor's decision. In the
past, it was granted as a matter of course. You would
be encouraged to see if your first marriage was valid,
and to pursue full re-incorporation into the Church.
Continue to pray, to seek the truth, and attend Mass
(bringing your daughter to Mass).
God bless you and your family. I am glad that you
are seeking to return to the joy of your youth as
the Psalmist puts it.

Hi Annette,
Your daughter is Episcopalian owing to her Baptism.
The Catechism is a good start and may permit her
to be received into the Church more quickly but
she still must be received into the Church and properly
catechized. Afterwards she can receive the sacraments.
Consult your pastor for the details.
