Hi, guys —

can he be legally married?
Thank you!

Hi, Anne —
Yes, duly laicized priests can be married in the
Church.

Hi Ann,
The question seems odd.
- Why would he want to marry in the Catholic Church
once he legally left the Church? or . . .
- Do you mean:
- Can he be legally married after he's legally left the priesthood?

Anne —
When a priest is lawfully dismissed from the clergy,
he is usually released from the obligation of celibacy,
so he's free to marry.

Ann replied:
The question is unclear.
If a priest is laicized,
he is free to marry in the Church.
If he leaves
the Church, he wouldn't want to marry in the
Church, presumably, but if he met a Catholic woman
who wanted to marry him, I presume it would be treated
as any mixed marriage.
