Dear WantingToDance —
Liturgical means pertaining to the Liturgy. The Catholic liturgy is the
Mass so in a Catholic context, if it is liturgical, is it done during
the Mass.
Being a Charismatic however I think I know what you mean.
The
Catholic Church allows and indeed recognizes that people praise God in
different ways, using all their senses, so praising God through dance has
a place in some sort of praise service which is non-liturgical.
That said, I would invite you as a Protestant to attend Mass, and observe
the steps or gestures involved in the Liturgy. See how the
Catholic Church has always understood that we praise God with our whole
being and that involves all our senses:
- We sing
- we stand
- we sit
- we kneel
- we bow
- we make the sign of the cross.
- We use water to remind ourselves
we're born again in waters of baptism, and
- we use incense because even
the sense of smell can direct us to God.
So in a looser sense of the word, the steps of the Liturgy, itself, could
be compared to a dance.
