David wrote:

Hi, guys —

I was raised Catholic, graduated from Catholic High School, and enjoy going to Mass.

I'm a practicing Catholic, however, I occasionally go to a non-denominational service, where it's all about praising God through song and worship as well. I also enjoy the teachings of the preacher.

  • Is there anything that goes against the Church's teachings in attending both services?

David

  { Since I enjoy both, is it permissible to attend both a Catholic Mass and Protestant service? }

Mary Ann replied:

David —

Catholics used to be forbidden to attend Protestant services but now are allowed to attend, for special occasions, as long as their faith is not endangered. Most Catholics do not know their faith, and are easily enfolded in the friendship and celebration of a heretical denomination. There is much that is true and good and that can be imitated in these denominations.

  • Why don't you try to find or help create in your own Catholic parish, what you see in the denomination?

Our faith is not supposed to be like T.V., where we channel surf until we find something that entertains or suits us. We are meant to know and commune with the whole truth and reality of God.

One convert couple from evangelicalism said, they sort of lost that grand reaching out celebration when they came to the Church and they realized that it was because it was not fulfilled in their union with Christ in the Eucharist, giving them a fulfillment and peace and contentment, their previous songs had only aspired to reach.

Our problem is that we cradle Catholics often don't discover the wonders we possess. So go renew your faith! God will reveal Himself to you and give you greater gifts than you can find anywhere else.

Hi, David —

In addition to Mary Ann's fine comments, I found this web posting which, from my view, answers your question.
