It's traditional to bury the faithful
facing East because, according to
Scripture, Christ will come again,
and will come to us from the East.
(See Matthew 24:27).
For the same reason, Churches were
generally built with the altar at
the east end, so that the people
and priest could pray (in the traditional
arrangement) toward the East.
