Hi, guys —

I was married in the Catholic Church at 19 years of age to a non-Catholic.

Due to an accident at work, I was widowed at age 32. We were married 13 years and had four children: ages 13, 10, 8, and 20 months.

Three years later, I met a Catholic man who was divorced for 20 years.

We lived together for 17 years and it was at that time we got married in a civil ceremony.  We did not investigate marriage in the Catholic Church because he was a divorced Catholic. (We didn't think we could get permission to marry.)

His wife was a convert and pregnant when they got married. They had four children over six years. She had an affair and efforts to reconcile failed. The father of the last child has been questioned by both of us over the years. She got remarried and he did not. When I met him, his children were grown and he was a grandfather.

I am now 60 and he is 73. His first wife is still living.

  • We have been together for an amazing 25 years and we want to know if we can have our marriage blessed by the Catholic Church?

Karen

  { With this mixed background, is it possible to get our marriage blessed by the Catholic Church? }

Mary Ann replied:

Hi, Karen —

The short answer is Yes.

The fact that she was pregnant when they got married is the most relevant factor.

Make an appointment with a Catholic pastor.
