Hi, guys —
I'm working with a counselor to address problems
in my marriage. I'm addressing my low self
esteem after having severely damaged my marriage.
I am attending Mass often (daily when possible),
Confession (at least weekly), and praying
the Rosary (almost daily). My counselor
has suggested using a daily affirmation to enable me to internalize God's forgiveness and his desire for me to do well and that I deserve the good things He has given to me.
- internalize God's forgiveness,
- His desire for me to do well, and
- that I deserve the good things He has given to me.
- Can you point me to a source of affirmations
so I may choose an appropriate one to repeat
each day?
Some background information. I am a Roman
Catholic who converted from the Anglican Church 17 years ago. I'm a 42-year-old, married man
with a 10-year-old daughter.

Ann replied:
Dear Phillip —
No, because putting God's gifts on
a premise of deserving is mistaken,
and also puts you in the difficult
position of having to perform to
earn God's love.
God gives His gifts to the humble
and to sinners, and humility and
repentance are the keys that unlock
God's heart. We must trust ourselves
to the mercy of our good God. So
I would say simply,
Jesus, I trust in you.

Hi, Mary Ann —
I'm not sure I understand your answer.
You said No to him but gave him
an affirmation: Jesus, I trust in you.
- Or was he looking for something else?

Ann replied:
Mike —
Jesus, I trust in thee — isn't
an affirmation! It's an act of trust.
He wanted something that said he
was good.
