Hi, guys —
Someone recently gave me a medal with the
inscription on one side:
Vaticano Città del and a
dove.
On the other side was:
PAVLVS VI PMA XII MCML XXIV and the Vatican
emblem.
- Would you be able to tell me what these words
mean?
Yours truly,
Anne

Hi, Anne —
All I could find out was: Città del
Vaticano means: Vatican City
I have no idea what:
PAVLVS VI PMA XII MCML XXIV
means.
Maybe my colleagues have an idea.

Hi, Anne —
(PAVLVS VI PMA XII MCML XXIV) is a
Latin abbreviation, referring to
Pope Paul VI, who was in office when
the medal was struck:
- PAVLVS VI = Paul VI (In Latin inscriptions,
V is used in place of U)
- PMA = pontifex maximus,
supreme pontiff
- XII = twelfth year of his reign
- MCMLXXIV = the year 1974
