Shawn Vick wrote:

Hi, guys —

You state that the only means of salvation is through the Catholic Church.

  • As a born-again believer of Jesus, I would ask you to please cite the specific Scripture that your statement is based upon.

The Word of God clearly states that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Thank you,

Shawn

  { Where in the Word of God does it say the Church is the only means of salvation? }

Mary Ann replied:

Shawn —

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. All who are saved are saved through the means that He has given us in His Body, the Catholic Church.

Mary Ann

Mike replied:

Hi, Shawn —

The reason you can't find it is because Protestants understand the term the Word of God different than Catholics do.

The Church came before the Bible. For that reason, the Church refers to the Word of God as both the [Oral|Heard] Tradition that was passed down from the Apostles to the present as well as the Written Word that was canonized in 382 A.D. at the Council of Rome in the Catholic Church.

From the Oral Tradition of the Church:

There is no salvation outside the Church.

St. Cyprian of Carthage 200 — 258 A.D., North African; bishop; biblical scholar, martyr On the Church

There is but one Church in which men find salvation, just as outside the ark of Noah it was not possible for anyone to be saved.

St. Thomas Aquinas 1225 — 1274 Italian; Dominican philosopher, theologian, mystic, hymnist, Doctor of the Church on the Catholic Church

If we wish to proceed securely in all things, we must hold fast to the following principle: What seems to me white, I will believe black if the hierarchical Church so defines. For I must be convinced that in Christ our Lord, the Bridegroom, and in His spouse the Church, only one Spirit holds sway, who governs and rules for the salvation of souls. For it is by the same Spirit and Lord who gave the Ten Commandments that our Holy Mother Church is ruled and governed.

St. Ignatius of Loyola 1491 — 1556 Spanish; priest, spiritual writer, founder and first superior general of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) on the Catholic Church

I will go peaceably and firmly to the Catholic Church: for if Faith is so important to our salvation, I will seek it where Faith first began, seek it among those who received it from God Himself.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton 1774 — 1821 American; wife and mother, founder and first superior of the Sisters of Charity on the Catholic Church

The truth that Jesus has revealed remains throughout eternity, taught and defended by the Church, who has been appointed Mother and Teacher of Truth. We must not let ourselves be disconcerted by events; we must always have a supernatural view of things and events.

Pope St. John Paul II 1920 — 2005 pope: (1978 - 2005) Polish; The most traveled pope in history. During his papacy he has issued many letters clarifying and safeguarding the Churches teachings in moral areas. He has consecrated his papacy to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

  1. Matthew 16:13-19: Especially verse 18:
Jesus speaking: 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
  2. 1 Timothy 3:15
. . . in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
