Hi, guys —

I have a few questions.

  • Why do people say that the Catholic Church is the devil's church?
  • Is there any proof in the Bible that supports this theory?
  • Also, is there any biblical proof for the claim that the Catholic Church is the true Church of God?

Aaron

  { Why do some claim the Church is the devil's church and where is the biblical proof for the Church? }

Hi, Aaron —

Great to hear from you.

I hope you are enjoying the Catechism I sent you through my program.

You said:

  • Why do people say that the Catholic Church is the devil's church?
  • Is there any proof in the Bible that supports this theory?

For one of two reasons:

  1. They don't know what the Catholic Church believes and are therefore attacking a Church that doesn't exist.

  2. In the same way, they accused Our Blessed Lord of casting demons out by the devil in the verses below, the enemies of the Church, inside and outside the Church, will claim what the Church teaches and does, is by the devil.

22 Then a blind and dumb demoniac was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the dumb man spoke and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, "Can this be the Son of David?" 24 But when the Pharisees heard it they said, "It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons." 25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand; 26 and if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. 30 He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

(Matthew 12:22-30)

These are people who:

— are not interested in accepting objective truth OR

— are people who have made an incorrect assessment of the Church due to scandalous behavior among Church members and its clergy.

The Church would say,

We don't leave Jesus and His Truth safeguarded through the Church and
St. Peter, because of Judas behavior among members in the Church.

Yes, Jesus, the Lord Our God, Himself said in Matthew's Gospel:

13 . . . "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" 14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in Heaven.

18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on Earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven."

(Matthew 16:13-19)

20 In that day I will call my servant Eli'akim the son of Hilki'ah, 21 and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your girdle on him, and will commit your authority to his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David; he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23 And I will fasten him like a peg in a sure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father's house. 24 And they will hang on him the whole weight of his father's house, the offspring and issue, every small vessel, from the cups to all the flagons."

(Isaiah 22:20-24)
Prophecy of the Catholic Papacy foretold in the Old Testament.

15 if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.

(1 Timothy 3:15)

For more Biblical support of Catholic teachings check our my Scripture Passages page.

If you hadn't asked for only biblical proof, I would say study Church or even secular history and discover which is the only Church that can trace its roots back to Jesus in 33 A.D.

There is only one: the Catholic Church!

If you want some negative biblical proofs, let me ask you:

  • Where in the Bible is the word, Bible?
  • Where in the Bible is the word altar call?
  • Where does it say in the Bible that you have to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? <Which, by the way, all Catholic Christians should do!>

Hope this helps,

Mike
