  { Should children of divorce be able to sleep and live with one of their cohabitating parents? }

Paul replied:

Mary,

In an ideal world I would say absolutely not. Such a lifestyle, in this scenario, is bound to seep into to the child's psyche as being something morally acceptable.

This, of course, is highly irresponsible of the parent and dangerous to the child's soul, but within the situation at hand, the question remains:

  • Of all the remaining options, what is the best of all evils?

Paul

Mary Ann replied:

Hi, Mary —

It used to be that courts considered this contributing to corrupting the morals of minors, but now marriage has no special moral standing in the law (which doesn't even uphold its contract),
and parents have no power at all over the court's decisions about where the children live.

That is the big unrecognized danger of divorce:

You are [asking|bringing] the government into your family.

Mary Ann
