Hi, Nick —
Thanks for the question.
Your question falls into the category
of non-doctrinal theological opinion.
So I'll give you mine.
Many non-Catholics and Catholic Christians
wear crosses as a testament to their
faith in Christ, Our Blessed Lord,
who died on that Cross. This is admirable,
very admirable.
Nevertheless, the importance of that Cross, would be zero if the Father
had not sent His Son to die on it
for our sins and the sins of mankind.
The Cross without the Crucifixion
is no more important than two pieces
of wood nailed together for a housing
project.
Personally, I admire those that wear
a crucifix far more than those that
wear a Cross.
- Because it is a visible, incarnate
reminder of the
sacrifice the Father made
of His Son to accept death
on that Cross for the sake
of our salvation.
- Because satan and his legions
hate to see mankind being reminded
of this; they will go to any means to disassociate Jesus with His incarnate, divine Body.
Anything that reminds men and women
of how God became incarnate or God
made man for the
sake of our salvation, drives satan
crazy. Jesus' incarnate death on
His Divine Cross is our salvation
and satan's defeat, if we persevere
in holiness to the end.
We have the tools of salvation:
- the
Church and
- her sacraments
but we
need to use them.
No.
- Will you be looked down upon?
It depends on the intent in your
heart; the reason you would want
to do this: e.g.
- being ashamed of the crucifix
- having a lack of courage
to wear it, or
- some other logical reason
why wearing the cross is more
appropriate.
Maybe my colleagues have a different
view, but that's mine.
Mike
