Hi, guys —

I found a Rosary in the park near my house. It has four little pictures around the loop part:

  1. one is Jesus
  2. one looks like Mother Mary
  3. one is a baby with a big robe on
  4. and I'm not sure about the other.

If someone could just tell me who they are, I can do the research.

  • Should I take it to a local parish, maybe they can get it to someone in need of one?

Thank you so much for your time.

Greg

Hi, Greg —

After a little research, this is what I found out:

What you found was a four-way centerpiece Rosary.

I believe these are mainly designed to extend the devotion the Christian has to the Rosary,
to other related devotions and/or saints.

For non-Catholic Christians and non-Christians unfamiliar with the Rosary, any one can pray the Rosary. You don't have to be a Catholic. It was meant to be prayed by everyone.

I remember seeing these centerpieces in the shape of a cross with holes in the horizontal portion of the (cross|centerpiece). It attaches to the rest of the set of five decades of beads on both ends, although more times than not, you will see them on pendants.

Although they are rare, here is a Coptic Rosary with this type of centerpiece.

It looks like the above centerpiece has pictures of:

  • Our Lord, or His Sacred Heart
  • the Miraculous Medal
  • St. Joseph holding the Christ child
  • and one other image I can't make out.

A more popular type of four way Rosary centerpieces are the circular centerpieces where the centerpiece is divided into four quadrates. Each of the four parts of the centerpiece having
(mini-pictures|icons) of Our Lord and other special saints. I went down to my local Catholic gift shop and found a military and nautical Rosary with four-way centerpieces.

This type of centerpiece has the Sacred Heart, Miraculous Medal, St. Joseph, and the Holy Spirit at the top of the centerpiece.

I believe McVan makes four-way centerpiece rosaries.

It appears the one you found had pictures of:

  • Our Lord, or His Sacred Heart
  • the Blessed Mother
  • the infant of Prague
  • and one other image

Yes, if you found something that is not yours, you should bring it to the nearest store, building or Catholic parish.  Usually when people misplace something, they will back track to where they had it last, to see if they can find what they lost.

Hope this answers your question.

Mike
