Hi, guys —
- Can I marry in the Catholic Church if
my husband was previously married and divorced?
(She is now deceased.)
We were married about 29 years ago in a chapel
by a Christian minister but want to have a
Catholic marriage. We were both baptized and
confirmed in the Church.
- What would be required of us?
Thank you,
Michele

replied:
Hi, Michele —
In order to be married in the Catholic
Church, no previous spouse of either,
you or your intended spouse, can
be living unless you have an annulment.
If he would be your first husband,
and he was married once (or none
of his ex-wives survives), you
may marry in the Church.

Ann replied:
Hi, Michele —
The prior marriage presents no problem.
Before you are married in the Church,
you will have to return to the Church,
if you left it, by renewing your
profession of faith, and make a good
Confession. Your pastor can advise
you.
I wish you happiness united in Christ.
