Zeynep Baykurt wrote:

Dear Sirs,

Four months ago, after reading the Gospels, I decided that I want to be a Catholic. I have been to the Vatican and last week was in Jerusalem. I live in Turkey and go to Vatican Church every Sunday. I looked into the Catholic education process with a priest and he said I need to start my education in September.

  • I want to know how long will it take for me to become a Catholic?
  • I pray to Lord Jesus Christ ever day and have a Cross necklace I wear all the time;
    is this OK?
  • Do I need to wait and finish my education before praying to Jesus Christ?

Best regards,

Zeynep

  { How long does it take to become a Catholic and can I pray to the Lord before joining the Church? }

Paul replied:

Dear Zeynep,

No, it is not necessary to wait until you are Catholic before you can pray to our Lord Jesus Christ.
He is the Lord of All and knows that you are on your way to becoming part of His Mystical Body on Earth. The Cross necklace is no problem either and a great witness to others.

New members start their studies in September and enter the Church on the Easter Vigil, in the April time period. We wish you well in your RCIA classes. If you have any questions in the process, that the folks at your parish are not answering, feel free to write us again.

Also, check out our corresponding section on our FAQ page.

Peace,

Paul
