Hi, guys —
I am a PSR (Parish School of Religion) teacher and last night in church our DRE (Director of Religious Education) told us not to make the Sign of the Cross when we genuflect. She said it was redundant, as we signed ourselves when we entered the Church and blessed ourselves with holy water.
Now, I am not a young man and when I was taught the faith, it was mandatory to sign ourselves with the Cross because the nuns wanted it that way.
I don't believe the DRE is correct in telling us not to make the Sign the Cross. I believe, that in signing ourselves, we should be reminding ourselves of our Baptism and of our worshipping the Trinity.
I believe it should be left up to the individual.
- Is there a correct way?
- And, is she correct in telling us when, and when not, to sign ourselves?
